What is platinum?
Platinum is comprised of six closely related metals (PGM): platinum, palladium, rhodium, ruthenium, iridium and osmium. These six elements occur naturally together and are among the rarest of the precious metals. The only country to produce all six PGM in significant quantities is the Republic of South Africa. These metals are also extracted from lode deposits in the USSR, Canada and the United States.
